Google’s Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon
Is there an actor who is actually a full six degrees from Kevin Bacon? Google just made it a lot easier to find out.
The search engine today quietly rolled out its new Bacon Number tool, which no doubt has already provided users hours of fun testing the formal digitization of the 1990s-era twist on the theory that all people on the planet are connected by no more than six other people.
In the Google search bar, simply type “Bacon number” and the name of an actor, musician, politician, or maybe your uncle who once served as an extra in a movie, and find out their Bacon Number.
Below the bolded result is a list of moves it took to connect Bacon with the search query-for example, type in “Bacon number John Cusack,” and you’ll find that they are separated by two degrees, with actor Tim Robbins (High Fidelity and Mystic River) linking them together.
The new function is already a hit with pop culture-loving inquirers, but don’t expect a flawless search.
